Passive Components

Components that do not produce, amplify, or direct current, but instead are designed to impede or attenuate electrical flow in order to influence the operations of a circuit in some way.

Passive components perform functions by essentially consuming , storing or impeding energy, rather than producing or amplifying it. These do not require an external source to operate in a circuit, hence they're termed as "Passive", as opposed to "Active". Resistors, Capacitors, Inductors and Transformers are the main types of passive components.
