Switches are designed in a variety of different configurations; they may have multiple sets of contacts controlled by the same knob or actuator, and the contacts may operate simultaneously, sequentially, or alternately. A switch may be operated manually, or function as a sensing element. Further, many other specialized forms of switches exist. There several ways to classify switches, common sub-categories include toggle switch, rotary switch, push-button switch, DIP switch, etc.
