Fuses

A fuse is an electrical safety device that operates to provide overcurrent protection to electrical circuits

Regular fuse is a metal wire or strip that melts when the current flowing through it reaches it’s rated current, thereby interrupting the current flow in the circuit. It is a sacrificial device; once a fuse has operated it is an open circuit, and it must be replaced or rewired, depending on the type. Fuses have different characteristics of operating time compared to current. A standard fuse may require twice its rated current to open in one second, a fast-blow fuse may require twice its rated current to blow in 0.1 seconds, and a slow-blow fuse may require twice its rated current for tens of seconds to blow.
